The Akrapovič M-AP01503C is a carbon-fibre-sleeved replacement muffler for the 2021-2025 Yamaha MT-09 SP, the model Yamaha ships from the factory with an Akrapovič silencer already fitted as standard equipment.

This is a replacement part, not an upgrade. The MT-09 SP is one of the few production motorcycles that leaves the factory wearing an Akrapovič muffler, and this is the service replacement for that unit — the part you order when the original is damaged, crash-scarred or stolen. If your MT-09 is the standard model rather than the SP, it did not come with an Akrapovič silencer and you want a Slip-On Line muffler instead, not this.

Because the SP's muffler is carbon-sleeved, it is also one of the more vulnerable parts on the bike. A carbon sleeve does not dent and spring back the way a metal canister does — a tip-over in a car park or a stone thrown up on a back road can crack or delaminate the weave, and once the sleeve is compromised it does not repair cosmetically. That is the usual reason this part gets ordered, and it is why Yamaha SP owners tend to need it rather than want it.

Before ordering, check the part number stamped on your existing muffler and confirm it matches M-AP01503C. Akrapovič uses the M- prefix for original-equipment replacement mufflers supplied to manufacturers, and these are specific to the exact system a given bike left the factory with. Matching the number on the part you are replacing is the reliable way to get the right one — model year alone is not always sufficient on OEM-supplied parts.
